1/4/2024 0 Comments Minimalist apartment f![]() ![]() Views of beneficiaries before and after construction of public low-cost housing are of great importance.Minimalist Apartment Design – Increasing urbanization, causing life in urban areas to become more crowded, so the need for shelter is also increasing. ![]() Thus, the paper would serve as a blueprinted government, housing policy makers and housing developers to understand that, the housing constructions and infrastructural elements should reflect the cultural background of the beneficiaries. In addition, out of fifty five (55) constructs from five (5) housing-related dimensions, the result identified thirty two (32) important attributes out of these, the residents considered twelve (12) to be the most important attributes affecting their well-being. The results indicated that, the design of public low-cost housing in Jigawa State, Nigeria does not reflect the culture of the residents, most of the residents were not satisfied with it. A well-structured questionnaire was administered to the residents of public low-cost housing of Jigawa state, Nigeria. This was achieved through descriptive statistics using Relative Importance Index (RII). In qualitative aspect, three respondents were interviewed to express their perception on the public low-cost housing design, while quantitative aspect assessed the residential housing attributes of low-cost housing estates with view to identify the important housing attributes considered by the residents for their well-being and was used to support the qualitative aspect. This research was conducted through both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The housing units were constructed as an intervention by the government for low-income earners. The purpose of this paper is to explore the design of public low-cost housing in Jigawa State, Nigeria and assess how residents perceived the housing units in relation to their culture and impact on their well-being. Therefore, a hybrid alternative is created. ![]() The main idea of this paper is to break down the concept of minimalism from history, down to various applications of it in the housing section and come up with a new or alternative approach to affordable housing whilst still putting other approaches in context. Although there have been many approaches to tackling housing affordability from the economics to construction and the design, but housing affordability is an issue that must continue to be researched and considered. Minimalism in design and architecture takes into consideration a lot of factors that are left to the background during design placing more emphasis on aesthetics rather than on the space and user. It deals with many aspects of human lives from art to music and architecture. The concept of minimalism can and has been applied to many aspect of human lives and living conditions. This continues to be a problem because housing is a basic human need and commodity. Another is the increasing cost of construction of the housing. One of the major setback to this is the increasing price of houses due to so many factors such as increased demand and inability to meet up with this demand. Some of these are increase in demand of a lot basic amenities and infrastructure. This is not in itself a terrible thing as its aids the economic growth, but the side effect of this growth is large. In rapidly growing cities like Lagos State, there is a rapid influx of people which has led to a rapid growth in the population. ![]()
